The Quest for the 600

Now I’ve talked to quite a few people and it’s my understanding that a lot of my tire wear is being accentuated by the fact that I have a 1,000 cc bike. I’ve reviewed some of my video and I do start ripping on the gas in the corner all the way through which is causing significant tire wear.

Switching to a 600cc motorcycle could alleviate some of that because you’re constantly on the throttle. You’re increasing your corner speeds to make up for some of the lost time. I’ve watched a lot of videos of 600’s on the same tracks that I ride and I’m seeing more consistency in speeds and cornering skills.

I’ve been considering selling these ZX10R this winter or spring in taking that money and building a track ready 600.

The first motorcycle I purchased was a 2006 Yamaha R6 50th anniversary edition. That was a fantastic bike and I rode it out at Texas world speedway back in 2007. That was my first track experience with RideSmart. Now I truly enjoyed the R6 and put a ton of miles in the time I had it writing out in West Texas. It was definitely already prepped for the track just in the sheer design of the bike. I’ve seen a lot of Yamahas out at the track and a lot of the professional track riders I know are using the Yamaha R6.

Of course a decision has to be made, but I can’t make that decision until after we go to Hallett for the last track day of the year for me.
